Get To Know: Seneida Leong

We finally catch up with our spooky queen @spilled____ who started with us back in December 2020 (yes, unfortunately about 4 days before lockdown 3) on where she's from, what she's been up too and what inspires her!
.
Three Kings: Hey Seneida, so - tell its a little about yourself, where are you from?
Seneida: I'm from Macau, China.
.
TK: What did you study/do for work before becoming a tattoo artist?
SL: I studied animation in KCAI, and later worked various jobs before got into tattooing.
.
TK: Oh, awesome! What made you decide to become at tattoo artist instead of going down the animation route?
SL: Well, I have always been interested in tattooing. I view it as one of the ways of drawing, just from paper to someone’s skin. Before I wanted to work in animation related jobs, but I realised how quick an artist has to draw to keep up with the production, and because I love to work in fine details, so often ends up having to compromise or not having enough time to finish. For tattooing, I believe it is the opposite. It is better to spend more time to even the smallest details, as the client will have to live and see the tattoo every day. That allows me to have the space to truly work on my art style.

.

TK: I completely understand! So, what ended up bringing you to London after doing your apprenticeship in Macau?
SL: I have heard London is one of best places in the world for tattooing, so that’s why.

 .

TK: Fair - Have to say, I kinda agree! What do you like about London compared to where you are from?

SL: London is much bigger than Macau, and has lots of interesting places and concerts I want to go.

 .

TK: What do you like the most about tattooing?

SL: The idea that one custom design will only be tattooed once, and the art will live and age along with the person who got tattooed.
.

TK: I love that! And, how would you describe your style of art/tattooing?

  SL: Dark and illustrative blackwork.
.

TK: What sort of things inspire you? With art/life?

SL: When I draw, I have to listen to some of my favourite music like DIR EN GREY or Tricky to get into the mode. Manga, illustrations and movies are also the main sources for inspirations.
.

TK: Two very different types of music there that you enjoy then! What was the first place you hit up once lockdown was over?

SL: Art museum.
.

TK: Oh, very nice! What did you miss the most about the outside world?

SL: I really missed concerts and travelling abroad!

TK: I feel you! I struggled with both those things as well to be honest. Is there anything about lockdown that you particularly enjoyed?

SL: Got to stay home all day, but it was also becoming a bit too much sometimes.

 .

TK: Yeah, that's pretty understandable! Who do you most admire in the industry?

Anrijs Straume. I read his book when I was struggling in a hard time and wanted to quit tattooing, and it helped me in a way.

 .

TK: What are you looking forward to most in the next year or so?

SL:Hope the pandemic to be over soon and be able to tattoo a lot this year.
